Hola! Week One at the MTC

Hola! Como Esta? Man it has definitely been an interesting and long last week. I've learned a lot and ive missed you all even more. Thank you for the packages, they're great. I share them with everyone in my district (class). It was tough to say good bye to you all at the curb as quick as that, but it was really comforting as soon as i walked away. The elder that helped me get settled did a great job at keeping my mind off of it. Like you said, its easier when you keep your mind off of it , and there isnt any time for me to think about it here in the MTC.There is a set schedule for most every second of your life. its hard to find time to even breathe.

I got settled in and got my name tag and all that which "made it official" and then we went to the classroom where our district meets up and immediately our teacher started talking to us in nothing but Spanish. This month they are starting a whole new way of teaching here where its complete immersion from the get go and it forces you to learn. So far in just a week ive learned a lot of basics to the language and ive learned how to pray and bear my testimony, but i keep finding myself trying to use german words when i look for spanish in my brain- its very humbling. On friday we got our first investigator...everything here is very accelerated. he isnt really technically an investigator but hes fluent in spanish and they say that they usually pretend to be someone that they met and taught while they were on their mission. so it seem very realistic. but i still cant believe they wanted us to teach in total spanish the third day here!. We have taught and my comprehension has really come a long way, but i still struggle at putting words together to make a sentence when i talk.

There are 12 elders in our district and 6 of us are going to peru and 5 are going to houston and one is going to independence missiouri. all spanish speaking. I love my district. we spend most of every day together. I guess i should say that we have 11 elders in our didstrict though because one elder that was going to peru went home the third day. it was a pretty crazy thing to see. I cant imagine what he was thinking about. we tried to tell him that it gets better after sunday like everyone here says just like TGB but he wasnt having it. so orginally i had one companion named Elder Pinegar from Alpine Utah but now we are a trio with Elder Wright from Idaho Falls. We are doing really well together. ill send home pics soon. Elder Pinegar in really tall and reminds me of Sam McDonald for those that know him. Elder Wright reminds me a lot of Alex Peck. Sorry to hear about him heading home, i didnt see him here at all. Other elders in our district seem to remind me of people at home too. its awesome. Elder Frame is from Cali and he has some bleach blonde hair and reminds me of Jake Anderson. Elder Duke is from Draper and really reminds me of Taylor Demars. Hes a really good worker and loves to learn his spanish. Elder Clayton is from Idaho Falls and he played baseball at Oregon last year and throws mid 90's. There is an elder here named Elder Mcconnell and he looks exactly like Justin Bieber. Its hilarious. Ill send pics of them all soon.

I also forgot to tell you that I was called as the District Leader. So on top of all the studying we do, I have a little bit more responsibility. Im still getting used to it but ill let you know how it goes. so far I just need to be a good example and go to a few extra meetings. Sundays here are a much more relaxing day. We go to priesthood and Sacrament here on campus in classrooms and we get to go walk around the outside of the temple. We also dont have to study as much spanish those days so its nice. But obviously P Days are the best. We do laundry, write letters, and hang out in our rooms for most of the day. Tonight we have a Devotional from a General Authority and word on the street is that it could be an Apostle but who knows. The food here en no Bueno. occassionaly we'll get something good to eat, and even if its bad ill eat it anyways cuz you know how i am, but it does not treat my stomach well at all. But im sure its better than Peru will be. I really really really hope we get our visas and dont have to be here longer. Its a great experience and I know its nothing but good for me, but Its definitely tough. and its a shock to get here. I miss you guys everyday and I wish I could talk to you more regularly. Ill try and send more letters later this week. I can definitely understand why some elders need to come home. but I love the lords work and the feeling you have after you just taught some one in espanol is THE best. It may not have been the best spanish ever and it may have been a stuggle, but it is progress, and thats all we're here for. Yo se que La Iglesia de Jesucristo De Los Santos De Los Ultimos Dias es verdando. Amo Ustedes y Estoy agradecido por ustedes amor.

Keep your minds busy and ill be home before you know it. I love you all and keep the updates on the outside world coming! ;)

Oh and please send Alec's Mission address if you can please, i forgot it. Oh and I could use one or two shirts and a pair of jeans if you can. usually ill only wear them on P-day but we work out and play basketball every day so ill need them more often. gracias. Exercize is the best part of the day, that and P-day is what keep us going.

oh and one more thing, i melted one of the shirts the first day i got here. lol classic. guess i had the iron on a little too hot. but i dont need another shirt ill be okay for now.

Thanks for everything! Tell Alli I miss her tons! Off to the Temple!
Love,
Tyler
